What is the purpose of having an external hard drive? What are some of the tasks that can be done with it!!

< class="additional-details">Additional Details 15 hours ago OK, it's used to store large files such as music etc....if my computer were to crash ,would the external hard drive crash as well? or would my files still be safe?? You can also use it to back up and restore your main drive in the event of a crash.
