Beginning Drummer?
I am going to start taking up drums. I have found private lessons from one of the best shops in the city. I tried my teacher but he is on vacation until the 8th of July. So that is why I am asking. What I need now is to know what all I will need to start drumming (Sticks, Set, etc.). Also, what drum set is a good, quality, inexpensive, beginner's drum set?

To start drumming you will need sticks , a basic kit and a drum throne (to sit on ). A 7A or 5A set of sticks is a good choice for starting out. If you find you want something with more weight you can always get bigger sticks. (2B or 5B) . Your basic drum set should include a Bass drum (18 to 22 inches in diameter), a snare drum (13 or 14 inches) two tom-toms one mounted on the Bass drum and one on the floor (10 to 13 inches for the rack tom 14 or 16 inches for the floor tom.)Some kits will have two rack toms. For cymbals you will need a set of hi- hats (13 or 14 inches) a ride cymbal (18 to 20 inches ) and one or two crash cymbals (14 to 20 inches ) , a splash cymbal is nice but not necessary. You will also need a drum throne to sit on. A practice pad is also helpful as you can practice your sticking without as much noise. Most of the major drum manufacturers make a line of beginer sets. Try Ludwig Accent series or Pacific by DW that's a good place to start. You could also try looking in the want ads of your local paper for a used kit. Good Luck.
